In Matthew 24 Christ warned his disciples of deception

Revelation 12:1 - The woman is the true Church in contrast to the harlot woman of Revelation 17

"And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:"

Revelation 12:17 - The Dragon attacks the remnant of the woman's seed - the true church

"And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ."

  • The seed keeps all the commandments of God including the 7th Day Sabbath of the fourth.

  • The seed has the testimony of Jesus.

  • The Testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy - Revelation 19:10

  • The seed has great spiritual insight and truth regarding the prophecies of Daniel & the Revelation

Revelation 12:9 identifies the Dragon & his work of deception

"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

  • The dragon is that old serpent from the Garden of Eden who deceived Eve & through her, Adam

  • The Dragon is called the Devil.

  • The Dragon is also known as Satan.

  • The Dragon deceives the whole world

  • The Dragon or Satan was cast out from heaven.

  • His angels whom he deceived in heaven were cast out with him.

1Peter 5:8 - we, the church, are to be vigilant

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"

  • The devil is the church's adversary.

  • The church is to be sober and not drunk spiritually - to be clear headed & of sound reasoning / doctrine.

  • The church is to be vigilant i.e. to be watchful of any danger i.e. of false doctrine.

  • The devil, aka Satan and the devil is seeking whom he may devour doctrinally.

Matthew 24:4,5,11 - Jesus said to take heed that we be not deceived & the Devil is the great deceiver.

4. "And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you."

5. "For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many."

11. "And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many."

  • We are to "take heed that no man deceive you".

  • Many will come claiming to be Christ, the great "I am"

  • This can be done in different ways such as simply applying the "I am" to oneself is a false claim.

  • False prophets will arise.  False prophets give a false interpretation of the prophecies.

  • Hence the church is to beware of false Christs, false prophets and false doctrines promoted as truth.

Matthew 10:36 - the enemies of a man shall be of his own household

"And a man's foes shall be they of his own household."

  • Spiritually the greatest attack will come from within the church.

  • Members of the church preaching and teaching false doctrines. - Matthew 24:45-51
